End of China’s Age of Abundance — Story of Two Peoples
How Chinese people were treated like foreigners in their own country.
Has China now reached its age of complacency? To answer this question, Dr. Wang (see bio below) takes us through the history of China’s economic miracle of the last 40 years. But the story starts even before that… when impoverished Chinese villagers decided to take matters into their own hands and improve their lives — in spite of their government’s misguided policies and severe discrimination against rural citizens of China.
As you listen to this interview, be ready as Dr. Wang debunks much of what many of us have come to believe about the history of China.
For example, the story behind China’s economic growth is not about cheap labor, as it’s widely believed. Rather, it’s about a healthy and literate labor force. So the story is about good labor.
In addition, the case of China’s spectacular economic growth is really special because it happened despite, or perhaps in spite of, China’s economic policies. In fact, Deng Xiaoping, China’s leader, admitted that it was the people who brought about China’s economic miracle — not the government.
