History of Podcasting
My Podcast Guest Is A Pioneer of Digital Broadcasting & A Scholar of Podcasting
The news is that it’s the two-year anniversary of the History Behind News podcast.
As you well know, in my program, I peel the history behind political, legal, cultural, environmental, and scientific news. But at the two-year mark of my podcast, I had to pause and think about how I got here. And I don’t mean just me. I know that my passion for history was the foundation of the History Behind New podcast.
What I mean, and what I want to find out, is how did podcasting become a thing? How and when did podcasting morph from its super geeky and techy origins, into this huge, supercool, mainstream phenomenon? Did you know that there are now about 75 million podcast episodes, covering every imaginable topic?
Also, how is a podcast different than a radio program? I ask this question because many radio programs, for example, those from NPR and the BBC, are initially recorded as a radio show and then uploaded onto the Internet and relabeled as a podcast! How is that different than my program, which is produced as a podcast from the get-go?
And finally, what makes for a good podcast? This is a good one, huh?
