Sexual harassment — a history!
What does it mean? And where does the term come from?
IN THE NEWS:
Mr. Cuomo resigned last week. Wasn’t it just last year that people were whispering about his potential for running in 2024? From New York’s governorship to the U.S. presidency! It’s happened before. FDR did it. And his older cousin Teddy became US VP (and later US President) right from NY’s governor’s office.
So, potentially, Mr. Cuomo could have done it too. And although his pandemic handling of nursing homes last year was receiving searing criticisms, he may have still survived it politically but for allegations of sexual harassment against him. Shouldn’t he have known better!!!
To better understand sexual harassment, its meaning, origin and our history of combating it, we spoke to Professor Carrie Baker. In her research, she focuses on women’s legal history, gender and public policy, and feminist activism. She is the author of The Women’s Movement Against Sexual Harassment and Sexual Harassment Law.
You can read about Professor Baker on her academic homepage. Also, click this link to listen to my podcast conversation with her, which is also available on Apple or Spotify, and on ThePeel.news homepage.
